ABB Formula-E Race at Home Challenge

British racing driver Charlie Martin has announced that she will compete in the official ABB Formula E Race at Home Challenge for the opportunity to win real-life track time on a Formula E circuit during a race weekend.

The esports championship was announced today via virtual press conference and will raise money for UNICEF, with whom Formula E have partnered in support of its global coronavirus appeal.

The two-category series will see an official Formula E race for team drivers supported by qualifying sim racers and invited guests, including Charlie Martin. The racers in this category will compete for real-life track time in a Formula E car at a race event later this year.

The races will use a special ‘battle royale’ format that is unique in sim racing, where the last-placed driver at the end of each lap is eliminated. The process of elimination will continue until only 10 drivers remain, leaving a one-lap sprint to the finish line to decide the points-scoring positions.

Charlie Martin said: “I am thrilled to be invited to compete in this esports championship. My entry to racing as a child was through console games and my love for esports and sim racing has continued to grow. In the midst of this difficult time for everyone, an opportunity to go racing, to provide some exciting entertainment for a good cause is very welcome and I am looking forward to the first test.”

The ABB Formula E Race at Home Challenge will be available live globally across Formula E’s social media platforms including on the official YouTube channel, Facebook page and Facebook Gaming site, Twitch channel and via @FIAFormulaE on Twitter.

Further to this, a selection of Formula E’s international network of broadcast partners will also be offering live coverage and highlights on both linear and digital platforms from April 25.
